Overview

What it is

A broadband intense pulsed light platform for dermatological, aesthetic and cosmetic use, cleared by FDA 510(k). A xenon flash lamp and capacitor bank discharge rapidly to produce very high intensity light over a very short period, filtered to the wavelength band the indication calls for.

Key features

Patented RPL and R2PL
Wavelength bands change by hand, with no need to swap either the handpiece or the filter — which removes the main workflow interruption in multi-indication IPL practice.
R2PL adds a 415 nm acne band
RPL covers 560 nm (melasma, pore), 590 nm (port wine stain, rosacea), 640 nm (melasma in darker skin, wrinkle) and 695 nm (hair removal). R2PL adds 415 nm for acne, and uses a 10 × 34 mm sapphire tip against RPL's 18 × 34 mm.
Computer-controlled delivery
The power supply and filter assembly generate light pulses to a prescribed duration, intensity and spectral distribution, so protocols are repeatable between operators.
Sapphire optic with focusing optics
Visible light created by the xenon lamp passes through sapphire installed in the handpiece, giving efficient coupling and good thermal behaviour at the skin interface.

How it works

The underlying principle

Intense pulsed light is broadband rather than coherent. Filtering the output selects a spectral band that the intended chromophore — melanin, oxyhaemoglobin, or the porphyrins in acne bacteria — absorbs preferentially, which is what makes one platform capable of addressing pigment, vascular and acne indications.
